FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If your question is not answered below, please contact our team and we will be happy to help.

Are any rebates available?

There are a number of funding options that may be available for your child, including Medicare Chronic Disease Management arrangements (previously known as Enhanced Primary Care or EPC plans) and private health insurance.

Speech Pathology services may be rebated if you have appropriate ancillary cover. Please contact your private health fund directly to confirm the rebate amount and any annual limits. You cannot claim through both Medicare and your private health insurer for the same session.

What can I do to support my child?

Early intervention can make an important difference. Your therapist will provide practical and enjoyable activities for home practice so your child can consolidate new skills outside therapy sessions.

Praise, encouragement and regular practice are important, particularly when a new skill is challenging. Home activities are designed to fit as easily as possible into busy family life.

How long will my child need therapy for?

Every child is different, so there is no single timeframe for therapy. The length of support depends on your child’s learning style, goals, underlying needs and progress.

Some children continue until their speech or language skills reach an appropriate developmental level, while others move to review appointments or are discharged once agreed goals have been achieved. Your therapist will discuss progress and recommendations with you throughout the process.

Does my child need a referral?

You can contact Bubbles Speech Pathology directly for private assessment or therapy. A referral may be required if you intend to access a Medicare rebate through an eligible Chronic Disease Management arrangement or another specific funding pathway.

What happens at the first appointment?

We begin by learning about your concerns and your child’s development. Depending on your child’s age and needs, the appointment may include observation, play-based activities, informal or formal assessment, and discussion with you. We will then explain our findings and recommend next steps.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth is available for suitable assessment, therapy and parent-support appointments. Your therapist will discuss whether telehealth is appropriate for your child and their goals.

Do you see NDIS clients?

Yes. Bubbles Speech Pathology currently accepts self-managed NDIS clients only. Please see our Fees page for current NDIS rates.

What should I bring to the first appointment?

Please bring any relevant reports, previous assessment results, hearing information, school or developmental information that may help us understand your child’s communication history. If you are unsure what is relevant, simply bring what you have and we can guide you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, incur the full session fee.

What ages do you work with?

Bubbles Speech Pathology primarily provides assessment and therapy for children aged 1–10 years, across speech, language, literacy, social communication and fluency needs.
