assessment:
First, we a gather information about your child’s development using a case history questionnaire.
The methods used to gather information are highly variable based on your child’s age and concerns. They may include formal (standardised) or informal assessments, structured language sample analysis and observations during play.
Either way, our assessment is conducted in a relaxed environment, with praise and encouragement.
We do formal assessments with standardised tests as well, but this is dependent on the age and stage of your child and often more relevant for an older pre-school or school-aged child.
Our assessments take 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the need. At the end, we will discuss the findings and make recommendations depending on the strengths and weakness of your child’s speech and language development.
Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments are available. This process and pricing is available on an individual basis.
therapy:
Therapy goals will arise from assessment findings and also parents’ main concerns. Our aim is to develop achievable goals for your child, where they are not overwhelmed by the task ahead of them.
Your child will feel this is a “play” session, and sessions are always carried out in as positive a way as possible. They take place in a fun-filled environment!
Individual clinic-based sessions are usually once a week, but it is dependent on the needs of your child. The therapy sessions may vary in time and are on an individual basis with your child.
Home practice is a necessary requirement of therapy in order to make maximum gains in the shortest time frame. The “homework” is fun and designed to be easily achievable in the busy lives of families.
We work alongside Gymworks Occupational Therapy and Let’s Move Physiotherapy, allowing us the opportunity to provide a multidisciplinary service for our families. This may take the form of a joint Speech Pathology / Occupational Therapy session in the gymnasium, or an internal referral if needed to other team members. This team aspect allows easy integration of communication and therapy goals for our families who have multiple needs.
